Full Moon over Doubtless Bay
Hope you have had the chance to include a break in this magnificent weather over Doubtless Bay! Attached is a photo we took of the superb view from our deck at the Golden Sand Apartments. The shimmering moonlight on the water is like an “elevator” to the moon. When it comes up over the Hihi Peninsula the moon is huge and yellow and it travels across the sky to set over Karikari Peninsula as an orange ball. Very special experience and worth staying up all night for!

Great Weekend for Hapuka
I went on the Karikari Fire Party Fishing Competition. We came home with 7 of 10 snapper were good keepers.
Our friends went out for hapuka and went fishing off Berghan’s Rise where our friend and local Nick Ryan ( commonly known as Ryno) and our prty caught several good sized hapuka. It is best to fish for them on the top or the bottom of the smallest tides as there is less current. As we fish for hapuka in 120-130m of water braid gear has no stretch and all bites are felt by the fisherman.
So keep October in mind for great hapuka fishing - and your first swim of the season!
Dolphins are back & the fish are huge!
On Thursday a pod of dolphins lazily swam across the Doubtless Bay leaping out of the water and playing together. We are so lucky to have seen them! Then I went out in our kayak and caught a 15 POUND SNAPPER! Topped off a great holiday!
Join the Taipa Tavern Fishing Club
Simply pay the $5 joining fee which entitles you to compete in the 6 competitions held on various weekends over the year with a free prizegivining dinner each competition weekend. This weekend the Sunday is at fishing competition. We went out at 7am in lovely sunny weather and caught a few snapper but sadly no prizewinners. YOur best bet is to call the Taipa Tavern on 09 406 0757 or you can ask Rochelle about it all. Stay at Cable Bay and have a great weekend away with the boys or bring the family with you. Easy boat launching is available at Taipa and Mangonui - or just catch a fish off the beach in front of the apartments
