Dive in Doubtless Bay
If you want a great experience, I recommend you take a dive in Doubtless Bay. “In front of the Golden Sand Apartments is one of the best diving in Doubtless Bay,” says Mike Casy a local dive instructor. And all you have to do is put on a mask and snorkel and if is a few paces from your deck! There is even a large rockpool to teach the little ones in.
Otherwise, there are a few operators who will take you out but I recommend Andre from A to Z Diving at Whatuwhiwhi for scuba diving. He really looks after you and you feel safe in his care. Plus he knows where all the best spots are. My son and his friend also went free diving off Karikari Islands and managed to spear 2 huge kingfish. The water is also so clean and clear. If youwant to see fish etc then Matai Bay is great. If you want to go for scallops or crays there are many great spots.
Shipwreck Dive – Rainbow Warrior
Some of the most easily accessed dive and snorkeling sites exist in Doubtless Bay on the Karikari Peninsula.
Home to numerous black-coral colonies, Doubtless Bay offers everything from walk-in beach dives to some of the most spectacular pinnacle dives in the world.
At the Cavalli Islands, just out from Whangaroa, you will find the wreck of the Rainbow Warrior, sunk in 1987, which hosts an ever-growing display of marine life.
